This project involves the creation of materials to support child victims and witnesses and their caregivers throughout their involvement with the justice system.
For children, participating in the justice system as a victim or witness can be especially confusing, distressing, and even re-traumatizing. Through the Child Witness Materials Development Project, funded by the U.S. Office for Victims of Crime, the Center is creating a package of interactive materials for children, teenagers, their caregivers, and the justice-system practitioners who work with them. The materials are intended to facilitate the provision of effective, trauma-informed, developmentally-appropriate education and support to children involved in criminal and civil cases in state, federal, and tribal court settings with the ultimate aim of allowing child victims and witnesses to feel both more informed and empowered.
