About the Program
We operate at the cutting edge of criminal justice reform in the New York area by developing, planning, launching, and managing large-scale projects that serve thousands of justice-involved people each year. Our projects include the award-winning Red Hook Community Justice Center, the Midtown Community Court, Bronx Community Solutions, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives, Staten Island Justice Center, and Newark Community Solutions. We also operate supervised release programs (as an alternative to bail) in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island; Project Reset, an early diversion program in Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn; young adult courts in Brooklyn and Manhattan; and a new felony alternative-to-incarceration program in Manhattan. Our criminal justice programs work with nearly 30,000 individuals each year—with the prospect of more in the days to come.
The Center is looking for a bright, energetic self-starter to join the Center’s Criminal Justice team. The Planner will work closely with a central team that develops, runs, and supports criminal justice programs. The position will include substantive and administrative responsibilities and provides an opportunity to help shape criminal and juvenile justice policies and practices; work closely with the Center’s project directors and other key stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, defense advocates and city and state officials; lead or participate in planning and fundraising efforts for new initiatives; coordinate or participate in the team’s project management on new and existing projects; and develop a close knowledge of the Center’s internal programming and organizational structure.
About the Position
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Help coordinate in the development and implementation of new initiatives throughout the city, such as early diversion programs, alternatives to incarceration, and community justice initiatives;
- Act as the liaison between the Criminal Justice team and operating project staff during project planning, development, rollout, and management.
- Support the Director of Criminal Justice in managing daily administrative and strategic operations, including tracking progress on a wide-range of initiatives;
- Support, coordinate, and lead project management of various ongoing and new projects within the Criminal Justice department, including convening and participating in internal project management meetings and providing administrative and organizational support;
- Manage creation and submissions of funder reports, grant proposals, policy papers and articles, and other materials for a wide range of internal and external audiences on behalf of the Director of Criminal Justice;
- Help coordinate development and assessment of protocols, procedures and best practices in an effort to update said protocols and procedures for new and existing initiatives;
- Assist in developing and providing management support to existing programs and operations;
- Draft reports and prepare presentations and materials for internal and external meetings, occasionally serving as the lead in said meetings; and
- Provide administrative support for the Criminal Justice team including but not limited to organizing conference calls and meetings, documenting and circulating next steps, editing documents, and assisting with the submission of fiscal reports.
- The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (required) and at least three years of work experience in a related field (preferred).
- Outstanding organization, written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations.
- Must be able to work well with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds.
- Highly proficient with word processing and database programs (such as Microsoft Office and Excel).
- Possess a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must work well with others.
Location: Midtown, Manhattan, NY; frequent Travel to projects across New York City.
