Overview
Sex offense cases are among the most challenging for the criminal justice system. Sex offense courts respond to the challenges by assessing community needs, identifying gaps in services, and streamlining information. The goal is to increase victim safety by enhancing community supervision of offenders. In New York, there are sex offense courts operating in Erie, Queens, Oswego, Tompkins, Westchester, Suffolk, Orange, and Nassau Counties. The Center for Court Innovation provides technical assistance on planning and implementing enhanced sex offender community management responses to jurisdictions around the world.
