The Midtown Community Court, an innovative criminal justice project, seeks a Clinical Social Worker to work within the Court’s social services department. The Midtown Community Court is a public-private partnership and a project of the Fund for the City of New York, and its mission is to respond constructively to quality-of-life crime and to work to prevent further crime before it occurs. It accomplishes these goals by sentencing persons arrested for misdemeanors in Times Square, Chelsea and Clinton to a range of community service and social service sentences, including drug treatment.
Reporting to the Deputy Director/Clinical Coordinator, the Clinical Social Worker is responsible for conducting clinical evaluations, designing and monitoring appropriate treatment plans, and facilitating individual and group counseling for both court mandated and voluntary clients.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Provide individual and group counseling for criminal defendants, walk-in clients, workforce development clients, and other court populations
- Conduct psycho-social assessments and craft appropriate treatment recommendations
- Prepare, implement, and monitor comprehensive treatment and service plans
- Provide case management and therapeutic services for a caseload of up to fifty court-ordered clients in drug treatment
- Serve as back-up resource coordinator in the courtroom
- Report on progress and compliance of mandated clients to court partners (judge, defense, prosecutors)
- Develop, assess and maintain referral and service resources with both public and private service providers that are off-site and on-site
- Conduct homeless outreach with police officers and at Port Authority as needed
- Plan, design, and implement new social service initiatives and alternatives to jail that are relevant to client populations
- Provide longer-term supportive counseling to participants of the job training programs, fatherhood program, and other court initiatives
- Participate in clinical supervision, both individual and group, case conferences, and other quality assurance measures
- Participate in staff meetings in-service trainings, and off-site visits
- Assist with other projects as needed
Qualifications: Masters in Social Work and SIFI certification required. Excellent computer literacy, communication and writing skills required. The ideal candidate will be a LMSW/LCSW with a minimum of 3 years experience working with individuals with drug/alcohol and psychiatric problems. Criminal justice experience and bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, or Korean preferred. This position requires an aggressive self-starter who can work with a diverse team and get things done in a high-paced environment. |
