A new case at the Brooklyn Treatment Court is created when information is downloaded from the New York State Criminal Records Information Management System (CRIMS) and entered by a clerk into the Treatment Application. Using the Case Initialization screen, a Treatment Court clerk enters the New York State ID Number (NYSID) and Arrest Number to determine if the defendant has had any previous cases at the Treatment Court. If the search reveals that the defendant has a prior active case, the new and prior cases are linked. If there are no prior active cases, the clerk enters the missing information in the Case Detail Information window and a new case is created.
